The concept of agency is introduced by Antony Giddens in the 1970s to indicate the person’s ability to independently act by making choices. Especially in Italian language and researches, the term has had multiple interpretations which did not always correspond to the English definition. So, this contribution intends to hermeneutically analyze the concept of “agency”, considering the etymology of the term, and also philosophical, in order to lay the basis for a reflection and a theorization of an agency education-training. In fact, referring to the origins of the term relating to the concept of agora, the agency finds its meaning in the reciprocity and interrelation of all the subjects involved in the educational and training processes.
