This paper examines the self-directed pedagogy as a way to promote the permanent learning. Along the text we show its implications in the educational field, starting with the analysis of the self-directivity‟s role in the learning process within the contemporary context. Next, we propose self-directivity as a training philosophy, and we describe several of the benefits that it brings. Finally, selfdirectivity is presented in alignment with the critical perspectives of the learning process, pointing out its power to promote human selfeducation in a real holistic and individual way.
